Union Friday - 15 May 2009

Union FridayOn Friday 15 May the HOPE not hate campaign is calling a trade union day of action as part of the campaign to prevent the BNP from winning seats in the European Elections. Our intention is to get hundreds of union branches doing some activity on this day in what will easily be the biggest show of opposition to fascism by trade unions in recent years.

The greatest strength of unions is their members, so on Union Friday we will be encouraging union branches to target their members. Where this is not possible, we will be urging branches to carry out an activity in the vicinity.

Model Union Branch motion

This branch believes that the British National Party is a racist and fascist organisation. It spreads hatred and division through racist scapegoating and lies.

The BNP represents the complete opposite to the ethos of trade unionism. We stand for solidarity and believe we are stronger when we stand together.

The BNP seeks to divide people on racial, religious and national lines and this would automatically reduce our collective strength and make us weaker.

We fully support the HOPE not hate campaign and resolve to get involved in Union Friday and affiliate to Trade Union Friends of Searchlight.
